How do a become an excellent driver?

To be the best at anything, you need to find the best coach/teacher and get lots of quality practice/training. Nobody gets to the Olympics or the top of their field by just doing enough to bet by. Learning to drive is no different.

  • find the best teacher/instructor
  • get lots of QUALITY practice

It takes time and effort to become a great driver. START NOW!

When should you start lessons?
I recommend starting lessons as soon as possible after gaining your learners licence. Starting instructor lessons early will help get you started in the right direction.

How many lessons will it take?
This is a popular question and there is no easy answer . Everyone is different and learning is done at different speeds and in different ways. It very much depends on how much practice you get between lessons and the quality of that practice.  I recommend instructor lesson/s every 15 to 20 logbook hours to acquire new skills and correct any bad habits you may have fallen into.  Then of course, lessons to “brush up” on techniques prior to testing.

Saving money?

Learning to drive WELL is one of the greatest life investments you will ever make. You’re going to be driving for 50+ years and probably handing down skills to your own children in that time.

Below are some tips that will help you save time and money and still become the best driver you can be.

  1. Really know the road rules and other information from “Your keys to Driving in Queensland”. Not just enough to pass your learners; I want you to study the book like it was a school exam. I know it is hard to get into, but the information is important. The more you know, the less I have to teach you.
  2. Watch other drivers – whether good or bad you can learn what to do and what not to do.
  3. Practice, Practice practice what you learn in your lessons. This is the one that makes the most difference.
  4. Make your lessons work for you. Ask lots of questions. It is quicker to say you don’t understand than wait for the instructor to work it out.
